Submission Guidelines for Contributors

Thank you for your interest in contributing to 9awtak. We welcome writers from across the Middle East, North Africa, and the diaspora. Please read the following guidelines to ensure your pitch or draft fits our editorial standards.

A. What We Publish
We accept submissions in the following formats:

1. Opinion
– Argument-driven pieces that take a clear position on a political, economic, or social issue.
– Length: 800-1,200 words
– Requirements: Logical argument, evidence, respectful tone.

2. Analysis
– Context-rich pieces that break down complex issues with data, research, or policy insight.
– Length: 1,000-1,600 words
– Requirements: Reliable sources, structured reasoning, accessible language.

3. Essays
– Reflective or narrative pieces on identity, culture, society, or personal experiences.
– Length: 900-1,400 words
– Requirements: Strong narrative voice, insight, emotional clarity.

4. Features / Investigative
– Long-form storytelling, profiles, or thematic explorations.
– Length: 1,500-3,000 words
– Requirements: Interviews, depth, narrative structure, balance.

5. Interviews
– Q&A with experts, creators, policymakers, or individuals with unique stories.
– Length: 800-1,500 words
– Requirements: Clear questions, edited for clarity, accurate quotes.

6. Blogs / Short Takes
– Quick reflections, reactions, or short commentary.
– Length: 400-700 words
– Requirements: Clear point, concise, timely.

7. Explainers
– Simple breakdowns of complex issues for general readers.
– Length: 700-1,200 words
– Requirements: Definitions, clarity, examples, “why this matters.”

B. Submission Process

1. Send a Pitch
Email us a brief pitch (3-6 sentences) that includes:
– Your argument or core idea
– Why it matters now
– Evidence or examples you will use
– Your LinkedIn profile / resume / CV
We respond within 7-14 business days.

2. Draft Submission
If approved, you will receive:
– Word count target
– Deadline
– Requested angle or adjustments
Submit your draft as a Word file with:
– A suggested headline
– Short author bio (40-60 words)
– Links to sources (if applicable)

3. Editorial Review
Your piece will go through structural and stylistic editing, fact-checking (if needed), and language polishing. Edits must be approved by the writer before publication.

4. Publication
Once finalized, your article will be published on 9awtak.com, promoted on social media, and considered for newsletter inclusion.

C. Tone & Style Expectations
– Clear, respectful, and accessible language.
– No hate speech, personal attacks, or inflammatory rhetoric.
– Arguments and claims must be supported with logic or evidence.
– Avoid excessive jargon; write for an educated general audience.
– Stay true to 9awtak’s spirit of thoughtful, fact-informed discourse.

D. Compensation
Payment varies by format and experience and is communicated upon pitch approval.

E. Rights
Writers retain ownership of their work. 9awtak receives publication rights and the right to promote the piece on our platforms.
